Professionalism is vital to creating any form of screencast, whether you are making a presentation, offering a tutorial or simply a video with a few instructions. If your audience notices that you're not being professional throughout your recording, they may not take you very seriously. So, how would one record an excellent screencast? Let's find out ...

Clear the clutter from your desktop before you begin a screen cast for a more professional look.

Don't waste precious seconds of your screencast searching for whatever it is you need. Your audience will not appreciate it if you waste their time. This is why you should never begin recording until your screen is ready. A large number of icons on the screen will only prove to be distraction for you as well as for your audience. All you need to do in order to avoid mistakes that will have you looking like something a little less than professional is remove any unnecessary icons from your desktop. An unprofessional desktop is not the image you want to present to your target market.

Take breaks as you need them. There are times when the magic just isn't going to make an appearance and it's better to push the recording session and wait until it is than to try and force it. It's great that you're the one in the driver's seat with screencasts so you can take breaks and finish the project in your own time. Make sure you don't overdo it with the whole taking a break thing though or you really could mess with the rhythm you need to make your recording work. The last thing you want is for you to lose the momentum you need to get the job done at the last minute.

Always be willing to improvise at the eleventh hour when it becomes necessary. Breaks are a healthy way to grow your own productivity, but don't let them stop your progression. Going back to the drawing board after a break is often a waste of time that would be better spent doing other things. It can be even better sometimes if you just explore the new roads your recording is taking. Experiment and see what comes out of it. More often than not you'll find better results from keeping on keeping on than you would have by starting over. Being creative in the process is what makes the difference between an ordinary screencast and one that is extraordinary. Your screencast needs to have a solid foundation if it's going to get rave reviews from the people who watch it. What's holding you up? It's time to get busy making your screencast today.
